Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2)
Through weekly
attendance at local Centres of Excellence, (Foxes Riding
School is the only centre of excellence in Cheshire)
candidates will receive high quality training and
development combined with the awareness of the commercial
attributes and skills required to run and work within a
successful equine business. The D.E.Q. Intermediate
Apprenticeship seeks to encourage excellence and raise
standards within the industry through developing highly
skilled and employable staff.
The
following 'framework' of qualifications is delivered as part
of the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Equine:

Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care (Horse Care &
Riding)
*Level
2 Award in Business for the Environment and Land-based
Sector
*Key
skills (Application of Number and Communication Level 1)
The Level
2 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care
consists of 10 mandatory units covering a range of equine
skill, knowledge and competencies. A choice of optional
units allow candidates to choose between a range of
riding (jumping or non-jumping) and trekking options.
Mandatory units
focus on the development of core skills and competencies
with particular focus on routine care relating to the health
and wellbeing of horses, riding skills, presentation and
grooming, and the monitoring and maintaining of a healthy
and safe work environment.
Level 2
Award in Business for the Environment and Land-Based Sector
will develop candidate knowledge and awareness of the
commercial requirements of running an equine business.
Candidates will develop an understanding of the structure of
the equine industry, relevant legislation and business
requirements including financial, marketing and
administrative.
Key Skills
are essential skills which apprentices need in order to
function effectively as members of a flexible, adaptable and
competitive workforce. The delivery of key skills will
be tailored towards the employability needs of the equine
industry, with a particular focus on the development of
communication skills and cost awareness.
How long
will it take to complete the D.E.Q Intermediate
Apprenticeship?
Each candidate
will work towards an individual learning plan accounting for
varying ability levels and experience. On average it will
take 12-15 months to complete the intermediate level
apprenticeship
What
is the Entry Criteria?
Entry to the D.E.Q Intermediate Apprenticeship is
subject of interview and a initial ride and vocational skill
assessment with a member of the HorsePower training team.
Candidates need to be hard working and passionate about
pursuing a career within the equine industry.
What are
my Progression Routes?
The aim of D.E.Q is to develop highly employable candidates
for the equine industry. Completion of the Intermediate
Apprenticeship will provide a strong practical knowledge and
skills base to support career development whilst proving a
progression opportunity onto the Advanced D.E.Q
Apprenticeships (Level 3) to further enhance skill and
career prospects.
The Course is open to 16-18 year olds
You will be required to work a 5 day week
You will be paid £2.50 per hour
This course is in conjunction with
Mike Kidd Horsepower and Myerscough College, all your
training will be given "in house" at Foxes Riding School
Interviews will start
shortly.
